Miriam was the sister of Moses. We first see her in the Torah when she places Moses in the waters of the Nile and hides in the reeds to ensure he is taken by someone who will care for him. Later, Miriam is linked to the well that followed B’nei Yisrael (the Children of Israel) during their journey through the desert. Miriam’s connection to water has inspired an addition to the Seder table, Miriam’s Cup. This cup, filled with water, is meant to remind Seder participants of the vital role women played in the Exodus from Egypt and in B’nei Yisrael’s travels through the desert.
